For people who like to put together their own first aid kits, the metal tackle boxes are great, as are metal lunch boxes for smaller kits. Here is a list of items you absolutely should keep in your kit of emergency supplies:
Scissors
Soap or other sanitizer
Safety pins
Sunscreen
Latex gloves
Bandages:
Sterile adhesive bandages
3 rolls of 2-inch roller bandages
3 rolls of 3-inch roller bandages
2-inch gauze pads
4-inch gauze pads
triangular bandages
non-prescription drugs including aspirin, aceteaminophin, anti-diarrhea medicine, antacid, laxative
tweezers
needles
moistened towelettes
antiseptic
thermometer
tongue depressors
tube of petroleum jelly or other lubricant
First-Aid manual
You can then add on some other additions that are good and practical but not necessary: plastic zip-lock baggies, cotton balls, Q-tips.
