Volcanos Part II: Preparation Kit
When you’re hearing about a volcano in your area, state or island being carefully watched, you know there are steps that should be taken for preparation:
Your emergency kit should include:
- the N-95 disposable respirators found at hardware stores. You should have these prior to any volcano alerts because they’ll be out of stock before you know it. The dust masks are woefully inadequate compared to these N-95 masks. (NIOSH-approved) The N-95 protect from 95 % of airborne particles. The N-99 does even better – 99 percent.
- eye protection – goggles
- reliable footwear with good soles, (not flipflops)
- radio and batteries
- medicine
- food and water
- can opener
- first aid kit
- essential documents and cash
